What you are applying is a concentrated blend of sixteen plant oils suspended in fast-evaporating silicones, which is why two pumps treat an entire head of hair and why it absorbs in seconds rather than sitting greasily on the surface.

The silicone carriers do the delivery work: cyclopentasiloxane and isododecane flash off within moments of application, leaving the macadamia, argan, camellia, jojoba, avocado and squalane behind on the hair shaft. Amodimethicone remains as a conditioning film that bonds preferentially to damaged sections of the strand, smoothing the cuticle where it is most lifted. The result is immediate: frizz drops, ends look sealed rather than frayed, and the hair reflects light instead of absorbing it.

This is the finishing step your routine is probably missing. Shampoo cleans, conditioner and treatments repair — but nothing seals the result and protects it through the day until you add a leave-in serum.

Key ingredients

• Macadamia seed oil — the lead oil. Exceptionally high in palmitoleic acid, a fatty acid that closely resembles the natural sebum produced at the scalp. This is why macadamia absorbs more readily into the hair shaft than most plant oils rather than simply coating it.
• Sixteen-oil blend — argan, camellia, jojoba, avocado, sweet almond, apricot kernel, grapeseed, safflower, sunflower, rice bran, castor, meadowfoam, sesame and sacha inchi. Lighter oils absorb into the fibre; heavier oils remain on the surface to seal. The layering is deliberate.
• Squalane — a lightweight, highly stable emollient that conditions without weight and holds moisture in the hair shaft.
• Amodimethicone — a conditioning silicone that deposits selectively on damaged, negatively charged areas of the hair rather than uniformly, concentrating the smoothing where it is needed.
• Cyclopentasiloxane and isododecane — volatile carriers that evaporate after application, delivering the oils without leaving a heavy film. This is the mechanism behind the fast, non-greasy finish.
• Tocopherol and tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E) — antioxidants that protect the oil blend and the hair from environmental and heat-related oxidative stress.

How to use

On damp hair — the primary method

1. Towel-dry hair after washing until it is damp rather than dripping.
2. Dispense 2 to 4 pumps into the palms — 2 for short or fine hair, 3 to 4 for long or thick hair. Start with less; you can always add more, but you cannot remove it.
3. Rub the palms together to warm and distribute the product evenly.
4. Apply from the mid-lengths to the ends, working through with the fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Avoid the roots and scalp — this is an oil-based product and will weigh the roots down.
5. Whatever remains on the palms, smooth lightly over the surface of the hair to tame flyaways.
6. Style as normal. It doubles as heat protection before blow-drying or straightening.

On dry hair — touch-up method

Use a single pump, warm it thoroughly between the palms, and press over dry ends and frizzy sections mid-day. Ideal after a windy commute, or to revive second-day hair.

Recommended frequency

• Every wash, without exception. This is a daily leave-in; there is no cumulative build-up concern when applied correctly to lengths only.
• Before every heat-styling session — blow-dryer, straightener or curling iron. Applying oils and silicones to hair before heat is basic protection, and skipping it is one of the fastest routes to damage.
• Dry, coarse or curly hair: daily, including on non-wash days.
• Fine or oily hair: every wash, but keep to 1 to 2 pumps and apply only to the last third of the hair.
• Between washes: a single pump as required for frizz control.
• Overnight treatment: apply a heavier amount to the ends before bed, plait loosely, and wash out in the morning.

Best suited to

Dry, frizzy, coarse, curly or damaged hair. Split and frayed ends. Colour-treated and bleached hair. Anyone who heat-styles regularly. Also works well on fine hair, provided the amount is kept to one or two pumps and applied strictly to the ends — fine hair needs this product more than most, and simply needs less of it.

Good to know

Kundal products are distinctly fragranced and the scent lingers in the hair through the day — for most customers this is a primary reason for buying, but it is worth knowing if you are fragrance-sensitive.
