The skin under the eye is roughly a third to a half the thickness of facial skin, has almost no sebaceous glands, and sits directly over a dense network of blood vessels. It is the first area to show fatigue, dehydration and age, and the least forgiving of anything applied too strongly. That third figure is worth reading carefully, and we would rather point it out than let it slide past. These patches work well on puffiness and fine lines. They do very little for dark circles. That is not a fault in the product — it is the nature of the problem. Dark circles are usually structural (a hollow that casts a shadow), vascular (blood vessels visible through thin skin), or genetic pigmentation. None of those respond meaningfully to a topical, from any brand, at any price. Anything promising to erase dark circles is overselling.

Buy these for puffiness, tired-looking eyes, fine lines and hydration. They are very good at those things.

How to use

1. Cleanse and apply toner. The skin should be clean but can be slightly damp.
2. Remove one pair with the enclosed spatula — not with your fingers, which contaminates the jar.
3. Apply the wing shape beneath each eye, with the narrower end toward the inner corner and the wider wing extending outward over the crow's feet area. Smooth out any air bubbles so the whole patch makes contact.
4. Leave on for 20 to 40 minutes. Do not leave until fully dry — a dried-out hydrogel begins drawing moisture back out of the skin.
5. Remove and pat the remaining essence into the under-eye area, temples and neck rather than rinsing.
6. Continue with your eye cream or moisturiser.

For puffiness — the effective version

Store the jar in the fridge. Cold hydrogel constricts the blood vessels under the eye and reduces morning puffiness far more effectively than a room-temperature patch. Apply for 20 minutes while you have coffee.

Recommended frequency

• Standard use: daily, morning or evening. At 60 patches that is a 30-day course.
• Maintenance: two or three times per week is sufficient once you have completed an initial course.
• Targeted use: mornings after a poor night's sleep, before an event, after a flight, or on a shoot day when you need to look rested.
• Sensitive skin: the retinal is low-dose, but begin at three or four times per week and build.
• Timeline: immediate hydration and depuffing. The clinical improvements above were measured at 4 weeks of daily use, which is what a full jar delivers.

Good to know

This product contains retinal. Do not use if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding — topical vitamin A derivatives are routinely avoided during pregnancy as a precaution, and this applies even at the low concentration used here. Daily SPF is recommended while using any retinoid.

Apply below the eye only. Do not use on the eyelid and do not allow the patch to contact the lash line or the eye itself. If essence enters the eye, rinse immediately with water. Always use the spatula and press the lid firmly closed after every use — hydrogel patches dry out quickly once the seal is broken, and fingers introduce bacteria into a jar you will use for weeks.
