A barrier-repair sheet mask for skin that has been compromised by over-exfoliation, cold weather, a course of actives, or chronic dryness. Where the Heartleaf version targets redness, this one targets water loss and a barrier that is no longer holding.

Madecassoside is the lead active and the most studied of the centella asiatica triterpenes. Its value is specific: it supports synthesis of the structural proteins and lipids that make up a functioning barrier, which is why it appears so consistently in post-procedure skincare. Abib states this formula carries five times the madecassoside of its standard cica essence, and lists heartleaf extract at 5,096 ppm. Ceramide NP attacks the same problem differently — ceramides are part of the lipid mortar between corneocytes, and topping them up directly reduces water loss through the skin. Niacinamide encourages the skin to make its own ceramides over time, and sodium hyaluronate supplies the water for those lipids to hold.

The essence is water-based and absorbs quickly rather than sitting on the surface, with the centella delivered in liposomes on a high-adhesion microfiber sheet.

Key ingredients

  • Madecassoside — the lead centella triterpene, associated with barrier recovery; the brand states a fivefold concentration versus its standard cica formula.
  • Heartleaf extract — listed by Abib at 5,096 ppm; an antioxidant botanical supporting the soothing action.
  • Ceramide NP — replaces a structural lipid the barrier is short of, directly reducing water loss.
  • Niacinamide — stimulates the skin's own ceramide production and evens tone.
  • Sodium hyaluronate — binds water into the upper layers for immediate plumping.
  • Centella asiatica extract — the whole-plant extract supporting the isolated madecassoside.

How to use

  1. Cleanse, then apply toner so the skin is damp.
  2. Apply the sheet, aligning the eye openings, and smooth outwards.
  3. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Remove and press the remaining essence into face and neck; do not rinse.
  5. Seal with a moisturiser — on a damaged barrier this step is not optional.

Recommended frequency

  • Compromised or over-exfoliated barrier — daily for five to seven days, then reduce.
  • Persistently dry skin — two to three times weekly through winter.
  • Normal skin — once weekly.
  • Timeline — tightness and flaking ease immediately; a genuinely disrupted barrier takes two to four weeks of consistent care to normalise, and this mask is one part of that rather than the whole.

Best suited to

Best for dry, dehydrated, sensitive or post-procedure skin, and for anyone who has pushed acids or retinoids too far and needs to rebuild. Oily skin can use it but will find the Heartleaf version better matched. It is a barrier product, not an acne treatment.

Good to know

The 5,096 ppm heartleaf figure and the fivefold madecassoside claim are Abib's own published figures rather than independently verified ones. Never leave a sheet on until it dries out, as that reverses the hydration delivered. Do not use alongside an exfoliating acid or retinoid; if your barrier is compromised, pause those actives while you use this. Single use only.
